La Salette Reflection – 24th Sunday Ordinary Time – September 12, 2021

Think Again (24th Ordinary Sunday: Isaiah 50:5-9; James 2:14-18; Mark 8:27-35) If you have already seen today’s readings, we have a quiz question for you. How many parts of the body can you remember that are mentioned in the first reading and the Psalm? We will return to this later. In…

La Salette Reflection – 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Sept. 05, 2021

Be Opened! (23rd Ordinary Sunday: Isaiah 35:4-7; James 2:1-5; Mark 7:31-37) The texts the Church puts before us today might at first appear somewhat less challenging or stimulating than usual. On the other hand the La Salette connections to these readings are abundant and fertile. In Isaiah: “Say to those whose…

La Salette Reflection – 22nd Sunday Ordinary Time – August 29, 2021

That you may Live (22nd Ordinary Sunday: Deuteronomy 4:1-8; James 1:17-27; Mark 7:1-23) When is the last time someone said to you, “You Catholics are truly a wise and intelligent people. Who else has statutes and decrees that are as just as this whole law which you have.” Probably never. In…

La Salette Reflection – 21st Sunday Ordinary Time – August 22, 2021

(21st Ordinary Sunday: Joshua 24:1-18; Ephesians 5:21-32; John 6:60-69) Warning! This week’s readings will challenge all of us in different ways. The last time we encountered these readings (three years ago), the title of the reflection was Whom shall we Serve? Everything pointed to the obvious answer— we serve the Lord. For us,…

La Salette Reflection – 19th Ordinary Sunday

(19th Ordinary Sunday: 1 Kings 19:4-8; Ephesians 4:30-5:2; John 6:41-51) Eiljah was a powerful and successful prophet. It is strange, then, to hear him, in the first reading, praying for death and saying, “This is enough, O Lord!” Not many of us ask for death, but there are times when our…

On the Feast of the VisitationMary, the mother of God, is always with us on the synodal path, for she is also ‘Mother of the Church’ (Mater Ecclesiae); mother of all those who are companions and disciples of her son. Whenever we are feeling lost, confused, or hesitant about the way, we only have to look to her to point out the way. Mary does not speak. She does not need to. She only needs to direct our gaze to her son. In her wordless gesture, she sums up the whole mission of the Church. Even when the People of God are ‘in via’—on the journey—they are always in mission. The two cannot be separated, for there is but one way and one object of our desire, one source of our life and our hope: Jesus Christ.(Towards a spirituality for synodality, p.45) #lasaletteshrineofenfield #lasalettevocation #reconciliation #lasalettelaity #lasaletteassociates #SynodonSynodality ...
